3-bedroom A-Frame — Timau
Project Overview
A contemporary 3-bedroom A-frame private residence located in Timau, set within a serene, forested landscape. Delivered as a full design and build Kenya project, the home merges architectural expression with precise construction execution to create a refined countryside retreat.
Client Brief
The client sought a distinctive residential development in Kenya that would stand apart from conventional homes—functional, visually striking, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. The brief emphasized generous natural light, efficient spatial planning, and a warm, modern living environment suitable for both quiet retreat and hosting.
Design Response
The A-frame geometry became both the architectural identity and spatial solution. Its steep pitched form allows for expansive vertical volumes, enabling double-height living spaces framed by full-height glazing.
The façade is deliberately transparent at the front elevation, drawing the landscape into the interior while creating a strong visual anchor. Carefully positioned terraces and balconies extend living spaces outward, reinforcing indoor-outdoor continuity.
Circulation is intuitive and compact, with the ground floor dedicated to shared living and upper levels accommodating private spaces, all organized within the clarity of the structural form.
Material & Finish Strategy
The material palette balances durability with visual weight. Natural stone cladding grounds the structure, giving it permanence and texture against the landscape. This is contrasted with expansive glazing, which introduces lightness and openness.
Externally, muted render tones and charcoal roofing create a restrained, modern silhouette. Internally, finishes are clean and warm—timber accents, soft lighting, and refined surfaces that enhance spatial volume without distraction. Every material decision supports longevity while maintaining a premium aesthetic.
Delivery & Execution
As an architecture firm in Nairobi operating under a design and build model, Pinmat Ventures maintained full control from concept through construction. This ensured alignment between design intent and on-site execution.
The project was delivered with disciplined coordination—streamlined approvals, controlled costs, and efficient sequencing of works. Integration of structure, glazing systems, and finishes was handled with precision to preserve the integrity of the A-frame form.
Project Outcome
The result is a highly distinctive modern maisonette design Kenya adapted into an A-frame typology—functional, visually compelling, and deeply contextual.
The residence achieves strong architectural presence while remaining efficient and livable. It delivers long-term value through durability, energy-conscious design, and timeless appeal. The client gains not just a home, but a landmark-quality private residence.
